This Practice Note examines the necessity of a harmful event in order to confer special jurisdiction on a court under Article 7(2) of Regulation 1215/2012, Brussels I (recast). It also explores what amounts to a harmful event for specific types of claims, including economic loss, damaged or defective goods, personal injury claims, intellectual property claims, actions for inducing breach of contract, as well as other categories of claim.
