What does Burglary mean? In practice, burglary describes unauthorised entry into a building (including dwellings) to steal or commit other serious offences. In England & Wales and Northern Ireland it is a statutory offence (theft Act 1968, s 9; Theft Act (Northern Ireland) 1969, s 9).
