4G definition

What does 4G mean? In legal practice, 4G describes fourth-generation mobile broadband (typically LTE/LTE‑Advanced) used to specify the technology, capacity and coverage of mobile services and infrastructure. The term is descriptive rather than a defined legal term, though it appears in Ofcom and ComReg spectrum licences, coverage obligations, planning and site agreements, procurement documents, and consumer-facing terms. Key features include high-speed packet data enabling mobile internet and VoLTE voice, with lower latency than 3G, delivered over licensed spectrum. 4G often provides baseline nationwide coverage following 3G switch-off and alongside 5G; obligations references 4G indoor/outdoor coverage, minimum throughput, network availability and repair SLAs. Outline

Appeal before the General Court challenging the European Commission’s 24 January 2022 decision fining Qualcomm for abusing a dominant position in the worldwide market for 4G Long‑Term Evolution (LTE) baseband chipsets by making substantial exclusivity payments to Apple on the basis that it would not obtain supplies from competitors (Case AT.40220).

This Practice Note This Practice Note reviews mechanisms used in settling litigation. A Tomlin order consists of a consent order paired with a schedule. It operates to stay proceedings on terms that have been agreed. The provisions contained in the schedule may remain confidential. This Practice Note describes the scope of confidentiality attaching to the schedule and sets out how it differs from a standard consent order. Sample wording for a Tomlin order is included, alongside links to precedents, as well as guidance on court approval. It also addresses varying, setting aside and enforcing a Tomlin order, including the considerations the court will take into account when handling applications for each. Further guidance is provided on interpreting and applying the relevant provisions of the CPR; however, some courts and divisions impose very specific requirements for both drafting and approval, and for approaching the schedule and confidentiality issues. Accordingly, you must consider the particular rules and court guide provisions in the forum where your claim is proceeding when drawing up the Tomlin order...
