Contractors are the organisations and persons who physically undertake building operations. Because this is a practical, on-site function, contractors are frequently those most exposed to injury or to harm to their health. The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007, SI 2007/320 (the Regulations) permit contractors to participate in planning and overseeing the construction activities. The Regulations operate in tandem with the general duty on employees, set out in section 7 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 (hswa 1974), to take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others.
