Named sub-contractor definition

What does Named sub-contractor mean? In construction practice, a named sub-contractor is a sub-contractor identified by the employer in the specification or Employer’s requirements (or in a list issued at tender). Although the employer indicates the firm(s), the main contractor selects, contracts with, manages and pays the sub-contractor and assumes the risk for its procurement, design, performance, programme and coordination. This contrasts with a nominated sub-contractor, where selection and certain risks sit more directly with the employer.
