What does Get mean? A get is the Jewish religious divorce document, delivered by the husband to the wife under rabbinic supervision (Beth Din). It has no effect on civil marital status: parties still require a civil divorce. However, many clients cannot remarry within their faith without a get, so its availability can be a practical issue in family proceedings. “Get” is not defined in UK or Irish legislation; it is a descriptive term from Jewish law.
