What does Reinsurance mean? Reinsurance is the transfer by an insurer (the cedant) of part of its insurance risk to another insurer (the reinsurer) under a separate contract, to manage exposure, protect capital and satisfy prudential requirements. While regulatory definitions exist (for example under Solvency II and UK financial services legislation), the term is chiefly a contractual and market expression developed through practice and case law. This Practice Note This Practice Note reviews mechanisms used in settling litigation. A Tomlin order consists of a consent order paired with a schedule. It operates to stay proceedings on terms that have been agreed. The provisions contained in the schedule may remain confidential. This Practice Note describes the scope of confidentiality attaching to the schedule and sets out how it differs from a standard consent order.
