1. What are the main statutes and regulations relating to employment?

The principal sources are the Labour Code, enacted by Law No. 7/2009 of 12 February 2009, and the Labour Code Regulation, enacted by Law No. 105/2009 of 14 September 2009, both as amended. Targeted rules address specific matters (eg, health and safety at work, workplace accidents, occupational diseases and labour misdemeanours) and particular categories of employment contract (eg, homeworking, sports employment, port or on-board work, showbusiness and domestic service), each governed by dedicated statutes.

2. Is there any law prohibiting discrimination or harassment in employment? If so, what categories are regulated under the law?

Yes. Discrimination and harassment in the workplace are unlawful on both general and specific planes: the Labour Code sets a general ban on discrimination and harassment, reinforced by specific legislation (eg, Law No.).
