As UK businesses regulated by the SRA, law firms carry baseline professional and regulatory duties around record keeping by virtue of their status. On top of this, they face additional, standalone record keeping requirements under the anti‑money laundering (AML), counter‑terrorist financing (CTF) and counter‑proliferation financing regime. This Practice Note sets out the regulatory requirements on AML, CTF and counter‑proliferation financing record keeping and retention derived from the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017 (MLR 2017), SI 2017/692, as amended.
