Nuclear decommissioning describes the legal and regulatory process for planning, defuelling, dismantling, decontaminating and remediating a nuclear site that has ceased operation, managing radioactive waste and spent fuel, and restoring the land either to an unrestricted, delicensed condition or to a state suitable for alternative use.
