Prize definition

What does Prize mean? Prize (in relation to a gaming machine) is the benefit a player wins from a play of the machine. In Great Britain, legislation (Gambling Act 2005) provides that it includes any money, article, right or service won, whether or not described as a prize, but it does not include an opportunity to play the machine again. Usage across England & Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland is broadly consistent: money or money’s worth counts as the prize, while a free replay is generally excluded. STOP PRESS:

On 19 June 2025, the Data (Use and Access) Bill obtained Royal Assent, becoming the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (DUAA 2025) and entering into partial operation on that date. Certain parts of DUAA 2025, addressing areas such as replying to data subject access requests and conferring authority to make further regulations, took effect immediately on 19 June 2025. Other provisions, relating to notices issued by the Information Commissioner and particular aspects of law enforcement processing, commenced on 19 August 2025 (being two months from the date of Royal Assent). The majority of DUAA 2025’s measures require additional regulations, in the form of statutory instruments, to be made in order to enable commencement before they come into force in practice. Part 5 of DUAA 2025 updates elements of UK data protection and ePrivacy law, including the United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation, Assimilated Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, SI 2003/2426. Most of the provisions contained in Part 5 are scheduled to take effect on 5 February 2026 as a result of the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (Commencement No 6 and...

It operates to stay proceedings on terms that have been agreed. The provisions contained in the schedule may remain confidential. This Practice Note describes the scope of confidentiality attaching to the schedule and sets out how it differs from a standard consent order. Sample wording for a Tomlin order is included, alongside links to precedents, as well as guidance on court approval. It also addresses varying, setting aside and enforcing a Tomlin order, including the considerations the court will take into account when handling applications for each. Further guidance is provided on interpreting and applying the relevant provisions of the CPR; however, some courts and divisions impose very specific requirements for both drafting and approval, and for approaching the schedule and confidentiality issues. Accordingly, you must consider the particular rules and court guide provisions in the forum where your claim is proceeding when drawing up the Tomlin order...
