What does Sheriff Appeal Court mean? In Scottish practice, the sheriff Appeal Court is the national appellate court that hears appeals from decisions of the sheriff court (civil) and summary criminal appeals from the Sheriff Court and the justice of the peace court. Created by the Courts Reform (Scotland) Act 2014, it provides a unified route of appeal and promotes consistency through guideline judgments binding on sheriffs, summary sheriffs and justices of the peace.
