Investor definition

What does Investor mean? In legal practice, an investor is the person or entity that commits capital, assets or resources to an enterprise with an expectation of return. The expression is contextual rather than a single statutory term; its meaning depends on the governing instrument. In international investment agreements (including bilateral investment treaties and investment chapters of free trade agreements), an investor of a Party usually covers: (a) natural persons who are nationals (and sometimes permanent residents) of the home state; and (b) legal persons incorporated or constituted under that state’s laws, or having their seat, place of effective management, control, or substantial business activities...

This Practice Note

This Practice Note examines the eligibility criteria concerning money and investments for a Tier 1 (Investor) migrant seeking indefinite leave to remain, where their most recent leave was granted under the pre-6 November 2014 Immigration Rules for the route and the application is made before 6 April 2022. For more detail, see: LNB News 17/02/2022 76...

This Practice Note This Practice Note reviews mechanisms used in settling litigation. A Tomlin order consists of a consent order paired with a schedule. It operates to stay proceedings on terms that have been agreed. The provisions contained in the schedule may remain confidential. This Practice Note describes the scope of confidentiality attaching to the schedule and sets out how it differs from a standard consent order. Sample wording for a Tomlin order is included, alongside links to precedents, as well as guidance on court approval. It also addresses varying, setting aside and enforcing a Tomlin order, including the considerations the court will take into account when handling applications for each. Further guidance is provided on interpreting and applying the relevant provisions of the CPR; however, some courts and divisions impose very specific requirements for both drafting and approval, and for approaching the schedule and confidentiality issues. Accordingly, you must consider the particular rules and court guide provisions in the forum where your claim is proceeding when drawing up the Tomlin order...
