Admission to the UK meaning

What does Admission to the UK mean?
In immigration practice, admission to the UK means allowing a person to enter at the border, either because they are not subject to immigration control or because an immigration officer (or the immigration rules) grants permission to enter. The term is descriptive; the underlying legal concepts are “leave/permission to enter” in the Immigration Act 1971 and the Immigration Rules (HC 395). Under ss 1–2 of the 1971 Act, British citizens and others with the right of abode (including certain Commonwealth citizens holding a certificate of entitlement) are entitled to enter without leave. Irish citizens do not require leave under the Common Travel Area (s 3ZA, Immigration Act 1971). All other nationals require permission to enter under the Rules. Since the end of free movement, eea and Swiss citizens no longer have an automatic right of admission: they must hold leave (for example, under the EU Settlement Scheme: Appendix EU) or qualify under a relevant route (visitor, work, study). The Immigration and Social Security Co‑ordination (EU Withdrawal) Act 2020 effected these changes. Admission is decided at the port (including via eGates) and determines the conditions and duration of stay; it also engages powers to refuse entry, cancel entry clearance, detain or remove. Usage...
