An adult gaming centre is an adult‑only amusement arcade offering gaming machines; in practice, it is a venue restricted to persons aged 18+ that provides higher‑stake/higher‑prize machines than family entertainment centres. In Great Britain (England and Wales, and Scotland), the term is defined by the Gambling Act 2005 as premises in respect of which an adult gaming centre premises licence has effect. Such premises require: - a premises licence from the local licensing authority (licensing board in Scotland), and - an operating licence from the Gambling Commission for the operator, with machine entitlements and stakes/prizes determined by secondary legislation and the Commission’s Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice (including age‑verification, self‑exclusion, supervision and layout controls). The term is used in licensing, planning, regulatory and transactional contexts (for example, lease user clauses, due diligence on premises licences, and compliance audits).
