BT
call Minder (network-based voicemail) is a fixed-line call answering service: if a BT customer’s line is busy or not answered, the call diverts to a mailbox and the caller can leave an audio message, retrievable later (for example by dialling 1571 or remotely). The term is descriptive/brand-led and not defined in legislation or case law.
In legal practice, Call Minder appears in telecoms and outsourcing contracts as an optional service. Voicemail left on Call Minder may evidence an attempted communication, but—unless a contract expressly permits voicemail—messages will not usually constitute valid service or delivery of a notice, demand or termination. Time-stamps can assist with chronology but not with proof of receipt.
Messages are stored on the provider’s network, not the handset. Where they contain personal data, organisations should address access, retention and deletion in GDPR-compliant policies and ensure confidentiality.
Usage is broadly consistent across England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In Ireland, equivalent network voicemail is offered by other providers (for example Eir), and “voicemail” is the generic term; “Call Minder” is commonly understood but is not a distinct legal term.
