CGNPG / CGN meaning

Published by a LexisNexis Energy expert
What does CGNPG / CGN mean?
CGNPG / CGN is used in practice to mean China General Nuclear Power group (and its UK subsidiaries), the Chinese state-owned civil nuclear company. It is a descriptive shorthand rather than a term defined in legislation or case law, and is most often met in corporate, project finance and procurement documents. CGN is the minority shareholder with edf in Hinkley Point C (HPC). It previously held a development-phase stake in Sizewell C (SZC) but exited in 2022 following an ownership restructure. CGN also led early development of Bradwell B (BRB) using the HPR1000 reactor design; that project is currently paused and has not reached final investment decision. References to CGN typically arise in shareholder and joint venture agreements, supply-chain contracts and national security and investment screening under the National Security and Investment Act 2021 (civil nuclear is a mandatory notification sector). Usage is broadly consistent across England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland; in Ireland it is mainly encountered in cross-border transactions and due diligence rather than domestic generation.
