“A lot of the work that I do is historic-the maximum sentences change at different points of time. It's really complicated and people get it wrong all the time. That's when having a timeline is really useful.”

Geographic number meaning

What does Geographic number mean?
A geographic number is a telephone number whose digit sequence includes an area code that identifies a specific place, so calls are routed to the subscriber’s network termination point at a fixed physical location. In the UK, the term is defined in Ofcom’s National Telephone Numbering Plan made under the Communications Act 2003; these numbers are typically in the 01 and 02 ranges. In Ireland, it is defined in ComReg’s National Numbering Conventions under the Communications Regulation Acts, using equivalent area-code ranges (for example, 01 for Dublin). In legal and regulatory practice, the classification matters for telecoms contracts, numbering allocation, compliance with General Conditions, number portability, and call charging. Geographic numbers carry location significance for allocation and routing and are generally charged at geographic rates, distinguishing them from non-geographic, mobile and premium rate numbers. Porting and VoIP use may weaken the link to a subscriber’s current physical address, but do not alter the number’s regulatory status as geographic. Usage and effect are broadly consistent across England and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland, subject to the separate administration of the national numbering plans by Ofcom and ComReg.
