Institutional Voting Information Service (IVIS) is a
corporate governance research and stewardship resource used by institutional investors and their advisers to inform proxy voting on UK‑listed companies’ AGM and EGM resolutions. Operated by the Investment Association (IA) since June 2014, the term is not defined in legislation or case law; it describes the IA’s analytical reporting service.
IVIS issues pre‑meeting company reports assessing matters such as board composition and independence, remuneration, audit and risk, reporting and stewardship disclosures, and alignment with the UK Corporate Governance Code and IA guidelines. It does not provide voting
recommendations. Instead, it flags issues for consideration through a colour‑coded “top” system (for example, a red top signals a significant
governance concern).
IVIS reports are commonly referenced by asset managers, pension schemes and proxy committees when discharging stewardship and fiduciary duties, engaging with issuers and documenting voting rationales.
Use of the term is consistent across England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In Ireland, practitioners may encounter IVIS where Irish issuers have London listings or where investors follow IA stewardship frameworks.
