Legal operations (legal ops) means the business management of an in-house legal team, applying process, technology and data to plan, deliver and continuously improve legal services. It covers the functions that sit apart from the provision of legal advice, enabling lawyers to focus on substantive work while the department is run as a professional business function. It is most common in in‑house practice but also informs law firm and ALSP service delivery.
