What does Level Term Assurance mean?
Level term assurance is a life policy that pays a fixed lump sum if the life assured dies (or, if included, is diagnosed with a terminal illness) during a stated term or by a specified end date, with no benefit if the term is survived. Both the sum assured and (usually guaranteed) premiums remain level throughout; the policy has no surrender or maturity value. The expression is not defined by statute or case law; it is a descriptive market term used consistently across England and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland in policy wordings and legal practice.
