Litigation support technology group meaning

What does Litigation support technology group mean?
In legal practice, this term refers to LiST (the Litigation Support Technology group), a practitioner-led association of litigation support and eDisclosure/eDiscovery specialists that promotes consistent, defensible use of technology in litigation and alternative dispute resolution. It is not defined in legislation or case law; the name is a descriptive industry term. Formed in 2003, LiST publishes non-binding best-practice guidance and practical standards for managing electronic documents, including approaches to data collection, processing, metadata, load files, numbering, e-bundling and presentation of electronic evidence. Its materials are widely used by law firms, counsel, experts and service providers, and are often adopted in agreed eDisclosure/eDiscovery protocols, vendor specifications or consent orders. The group’s work supports proportionality, cooperation and cost control under local procedural rules: for example, the Civil Procedure Rules (including PD 57AD) in England and Wales, the Scottish rules on recovery of documents, the Northern Ireland discovery regime, and discovery under the Irish Rules of the Superior Courts. Courts may encourage parties to use LiST-consistent formats where helpful, but adoption is voluntary. Usage and understanding of the term are broadly consistent across England & Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
