Nawah Energy meaning

Published by a LexisNexis Energy expert
What does Nawah Energy mean?
Nawah Energy (Nawah Energy company) is the UAE-based operating company responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Barakah nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi. In UK and Irish legal practice, the term identifies the Barakah plant operator in transactional, regulatory and disputes work; it is not a term defined in UK or Irish legislation or case law. Established as a joint venture by Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), Nawah runs the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant and holds the operating licences issued by the UAE Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) for its units, which are in commercial operation. References to Nawah commonly arise in: - project finance, EPC/O&M and supply-chain contracts connected to Barakah; - compliance (sanctions, export controls, nuclear safeguards) and KYC/due diligence; - governing law, jurisdiction, enforcement and security analysis when contracting with a UAE counterparty. Usage is consistent across England & Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland. Nawah’s corporate status, licensing and nuclear regulatory obligations are matters of UAE law, and practitioners should verify UAE law capacity, authority and regulatory approvals when contracting with or advising on matters involving Nawah Energy.
