NNB GenCo meaning

Published by a LexisNexis Energy expert
What does NNB GenCo mean?
A shorthand used in UK energy and construction practice for NNB Generation company (hpc) Limited, the project company for the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station. It is not defined in legislation or case law; rather, it is a descriptive term commonly used in contracts, finance documents and regulatory materials. NNB GenCo is the nuclear site licence holder for Hinkley Point C and the generator under the Contract for Difference with the Low Carbon Contracts Company. It is the principal counterparty for EPC and O&M contracts, project financing and security packages, planning and land agreements linked to the Development Consent Order under the Planning Act 2008, and environmental and marine permits. Ownership is currently edf (66.5%) and China General Nuclear (CGN) (33.5%). Within the EDF group, “NNB GenCo” can also be used for other new nuclear subsidiaries; in practice this term ordinarily refers to the Hinkley Point C company and should not be confused with NNB Generation Company (SZC) Limited. Usage and meaning are consistent across England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In Ireland, it is encountered in cross‑border energy and finance work but has no separate statutory definition.
