NTN meaning

Published by a LexisNexis Energy expert
What does NTN mean?
NTN stands for Nuclear Training Network, an industry online portal used by nuclear licensees, contractors and training providers to share, deliver and control access to training resources. It is not defined in legislation or case law; the term describes the specific platform at www.nucleartrainingnetwork.com. In legal practice, NTN is typically referenced in contracts, procurement specifications and compliance programmes as a mechanism to meet and evidence training obligations (for example, arrangements supporting compliance with Site Licence Condition 10 (Training) in Great Britain under the Nuclear Installations Act 1965 and Energy Act 2013, and related ONR expectations). Use of NTN engages data protection compliance (UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018; in Ireland, the GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018), intellectual property licensing of course content, confidentiality, information security and audit rights, which are usually addressed in platform terms and supplier/customer agreements. Usage is broadly consistent across England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (noting ONR's remit is Great Britain) and Ireland. Where NTN is mandated in the nuclear supply chain, parties should ensure appropriate contractual provisions on access, acceptable use, record retention, security classifications and export controls, and confirm that NTN outputs are acceptable evidence for regulator and client audits.
