Personal numbering meaning

What does Personal numbering mean?
Personal numbering is a non-geographic number translation service that allows a caller to dial one “personal” number and have the call forwarded to one or more destination numbers selected by the subscriber, in the UK or abroad. In UK practice the term is used in regulation and is defined in Ofcom’s National Telephone Numbering Plan as “personal numbering services”, commonly using 070 numbers, and is distinct from mobile services. Typical uses include providing a single contact point, preserving privacy of the underlying line, and enabling time-of-day or location-based routing. Key legal features include number translation/forwarding, variable routing endpoints, and pricing/transparency obligations, with a recognised consumer-protection risk historically associated with 070 ranges. Ofcom imposes conditions on allocation and use, tariff publication and misuse prevention, and has capped wholesale charges for 070 numbers to curb harm. Across England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, usage and regulation are consistent under Ofcom. In Ireland, comparable services exist under ComReg’s numbering framework, though prefixes and charging arrangements may differ. Legal relevance includes telecoms contracting, advertising and pricing disclosures, data protection for call-routing records, and compliance with nuisance-call and misuse rules.

Insurance under JCT Design and Build and Standard Building Contracts 2024: liabilities, Options A–C, Specified Perils and Excepted Risks, PII, terrorism cover, claims and reinstatement

This Practice Note looks at the insurance provisions in the main forms of JCT contract. It examines the Contractor’s liabilities and insurance obligations under the JCT Design and Build Contract (DB) 2024 and the JCT Standard Building Contract (SBC) 2024. This Practice Note examines CPR 14, addressing admissions, and specifically CPR 14.3, which relates to admissions arising under the Pre-Action Protocol for Low Value Personal Injury Claims in Road Traffic Accidents (the RTA Protocol), the Pre-Action Protocol for Low Value Personal Injury (Employers’ Liability and Public Liability) Claims (the EL/PL Protocol) or the Pre-Action Protocol for Personal Injury Claims Below the Small Claims Limit in Road Traffic Accidents (the RTA Small Claims Protocol). Historic versions of CPR 14 and CPR PD 14 The CPR rules concerning admissions were updated with effect from 1 October 2023. In particular, CPR 14 was overhauled significantly and Practice Direction 14 was removed. Judgments issued before these amendments took effect on 1 October 2023 may therefore refer to earlier provisions and numbering, and should be read with appropriate caution in view of the revisions introduced, since the landscape has changed materially...

Dental negligence: interpreting records, radiographs and tooth numbering; NHS Business Services Authority data and expert evidence

Dental notes A frequent stumbling block for lawyers handling dental negligence matters is the language and nomenclature found in the records. The presentation of notes has altered over the years and continues to develop. Paper records Up to around 2000, only a small number of practices kept computerised files. The vast majority of clinicians documented care on NHS‑derived standardised buff cards (FP25). Unsurprisingly, handwriting was often poor, and specialist terms compounded the challenge of interpretation. The buff shade significantly hampers photocopying. Where entries prove illegible, practitioners should return to the practice to obtain clearer, legible reproductions, using a colour copier if required. Lost or misplaced cards were not unusual, and often a second set of notes might exist. Many practices wrote the card number at the head of the FP25, and continuity across the sequence ought to be verified. At times, neither the solicitor nor the expert can reliably discern the content. In that event, it is proper for a claimant solicitor to seek clarification from the...
