SFEN meaning

Published by a LexisNexis Energy expert
What does SFEN mean?
SFEN refers to the Société Française d’Énergie Nucléaire, the French professional society for the nuclear industry, broadly comparable to the UK’s Nuclear Institute (NI). In legal practice it is a descriptive reference, not a term defined in UK or Irish legislation or case law. SFEN is typically encountered in cross‑border nuclear projects, procurement and due diligence, for example: - where tender or contract criteria require membership of a recognised nuclear professional body; - in recognising continuing professional development, technical guidance or codes of conduct issued by an industry body; - in instructing expert witnesses or identifying suitable technical advisers; and - when citing industry publications or committees in regulatory submissions. Usage and meaning are consistent across England & Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland. Where contracts or policies refer to “equivalent professional bodies”, SFEN is commonly treated as the French counterpart to the NI, but parties should state expressly whether SFEN membership is accepted as an equivalent and check any eligibility or recognition requirements with the relevant regulator, employer or accreditation scheme. Also known in English as the French Nuclear Society.
