ASA rulings—9 July 2025

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) reviewed two complaints about an Instagram promotion for a weight-loss medicine, and both were upheld. The outcome forms part of a broader programme scrutinising prescription-only medicines (POMs) used for weight reduction. Of the 18 decisions released this week, nine concern comparable matters. ICO launches consultation on regulating low-risk online advertising models

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has opened a consultation to collect stakeholder input on a refreshed regulatory approach to online advertising under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). It proposes a risk-based framework to encourage privacy-friendly, commercially sustainable advertising solutions that lessen reliance on consent. Responses are requested by 29 August 2025. This Practice Note This Practice Note reviews mechanisms used in settling litigation. A Tomlin order consists of a consent order paired with a schedule. It operates to stay proceedings on terms that have been agreed. The provisions contained in the schedule may remain confidential. This Practice Note describes the scope of confidentiality attaching to the schedule and sets out how it differs from a standard consent order. Sample wording for a Tomlin order is included, alongside links to precedents, as well as guidance on court approval.
