JCSI issues Thirty-fourth Report for Session 2024–26 reviewing statutory instruments
The Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments (JCSI) has released its Thirty-fourth Report for the 2024–26 Session. It flagged to both the House of Commons and the House of Lords the Companies Authorised to Register, Unregistered Companies and Overseas Companies (Application of Company Law) Regulations 2025, SI 2025/761, highlighting a need to clarify the order in which certain provisions of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA 2023) would commence. The Department of Trade provided the necessary clarification in a memorandum set out in Appendix 2 to the JCSI’s report, confirming the intention to bring section 167M of the Companies Act 2006 (preventing anyone whose identity has not been verified from acting as a director) into force at the same time as ECCTA 2023, section 59 and Schedule 2 (addressing confirmation statements and the abolition of specified local company registers)...
