Under EU GDPR, personal data must be correct, and people must be able to view it in full, including its source. Yet OpenAI openly concedes it cannot fix inaccurate details produced by ChatGPT, nor explain where the data originates or what ChatGPT stores about particular individuals. The company acknowledges the problem but seems indifferent, asserting instead that 'factual accuracy in large language models remains an area of active research'. Consequently, Noyb lodged a complaint against OpenAI with the Austrian DSB on 29 April 2024.
