193rd Practice Direction update—in force various dates

The Master of the Rolls and the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice have authorised the 193rd Practice Direction (PD) update to the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR). See: LNB News 10/02/2026 26.

Civil Procedure (Amendment) Rules 2026

The Civil Procedure (Amendment) Rules 2026, SI 2026/97, modify the Civil Procedure Rules 1998. Most provisions take effect on 6 April 2026, with two changes commencing on dates to be set by other legislation. See: LNB News 06/02/2026 42.

This Practice Note This Practice Note reviews mechanisms used in settling litigation. A Tomlin order consists of a consent order paired with a schedule. It operates to stay proceedings on terms that have been agreed. The provisions contained in the schedule may remain confidential. This Practice Note describes the scope of confidentiality attaching to the schedule and sets out how it differs from a standard consent order. Sample wording for a Tomlin order is included, alongside links to precedents, as well as guidance on court approval. It also addresses varying, setting aside and enforcing a Tomlin order, including the considerations the court will take into account when handling applications for each.
