King’s Speech 2024—key planning announcements

At the first State Opening of Parliament under the new administration on 17 July 2024, His Majesty King Charles III outlined ministers’ priorities and the legislative programme. Among the headline measures for planning law and practice that the government intends to take forward this Parliamentary session are the Planning and Infrastructure Bill and the High Speed Rail (Crewe to Manchester) Bill. Additional proposals likely to interest planning practitioners include the English Devolution Bill, the Holocaust Memorial Bill and the Great British Energy Bill. Analysis is provided by Stephanie Hall (Davitt Jones Bould), Richard Sharpe (Sharpe Pritchard) and Carina Wentzel (Norton Rose Fullbright). See: LNB News 17/07/2024 93.

It also addresses varying, setting aside and enforcing a Tomlin order, including the considerations the court will take into account when handling applications for each. Further guidance is provided on interpreting and applying the relevant provisions of the CPR; however, some courts and divisions impose very specific requirements for both drafting and approval, and for approaching the schedule and confidentiality issues. Accordingly, you must consider the particular rules and court guide provisions in the forum where your claim is proceeding when drawing up the Tomlin order...
