Brexit highlights

  • Northern Ireland Assembly gives democratic consent to Windsor Framework — The Northern Ireland Assembly has backed, through a democratic vote, the continued application of articles 5 to 10 of the Windsor Framework for a further four years. This is the first occasion on which the Assembly has voted to grant democratic consent to the framework. See: LNB News 11/12/2024 24.
  • Council approves 2025 fishing deal with UK for shared stocks — The Council of the EU has approved a 2025 fisheries agreement with the United Kingdom, spanning over 80 total allowable catches (TACs) for jointly managed stocks in the Atlantic and North Sea. Guided by scientific advice from the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), the arrangement seeks to ensure sustainable fishing and deliver economic stability for EU fishers. This Practice Note This Practice Note reviews mechanisms used in settling litigation. A Tomlin order consists of a consent order paired with a schedule. It operates to stay proceedings on terms that have been agreed. The provisions contained in the schedule may remain confidential. This Practice Note describes the scope of confidentiality attaching to the schedule and sets out how it differs from a standard consent order. Sample wording for a Tomlin order is included, alongside links to precedents, as well as guidance on court approval. It also addresses varying, setting aside and enforcing a Tomlin order, including the considerations the court will take into account when handling applications for each.
