Alison Saunders — a partner at Linklaters LLP who succeeded Starmer as DPP in 2013 — said the system should benefit: he understands the issues, has an exceptional legal track record and will surround himself with the right people. Before leading the CPS, Starmer practised as a defence barrister specialising in human rights; as DPP he oversaw a 6,000-strong government department with a £590m (US$750m) budget for five years...
