The Commission tabled the proposal in July 2023, choosing not to reopen the core of the EU’s flagship General Data Protection Regulation. It would bolster parties’ procedural guarantees, including a right to be heard, oblige regulators to work together more closely, and accelerate enforcement. After only four months of discussions, legislators, digital rights and consumer organisations — alongside Big Tech — are urging that the file not be pushed through by April.
