What does Reasonable adjustments mean? Reasonable adjustments are practical changes an employer, service provider, education body or landlord makes so a disabled person is not put at a disadvantage—for example, modifying a provision, criterion or practice (PCP), altering physical features, or providing auxiliary aids and services. In England, Wales and Scotland, the duty is defined in the Equality Act 2010 (notably sections 20–22). It arises where a disabled person would otherwise face a substantial disadvantage. In employment, it is an individualised duty that depends on the employer’s actual or constructive knowledge; for services and public functions the duty is anticipatory.
