Collective redundancy consultation describes the mandatory process by which an employer engages with recognised trade union representatives or elected employee representatives about proposed large‑scale redundancies. It is a statutory concept: in England & Wales and Scotland, section 188 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 (TULRCA); in Northern Ireland, the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Northern Ireland) Order 1995; and in Ireland, the Protection of Employment Acts 1977–2014.
